Why Contact Lenses Are a Good Option for Teens

No adolescent wants to be seen wearing something out of style, and for a lot of teenagers, glasses sometimes seem that way. Just the thought of ''four eyes'' can send an adolescent panicking. In comparison with glasses, children and teenagers who opt for lenses report a significant enhancement in their appearance, a newly published report shows. The research report suggests that beginning from the age of eight, pre-teens should be given the choice of contact lenses. Researchers published the study in the November issue of Eye & Contact Lens, published by the Contact Lens Association.

Just how do contacts bolster teens' self esteem? Young adults are insecure, and they often feel better about themselves when they don't have eye glasses being the focus of their appearance. Lenses may help teenagers feel greater self-esteem and more comfort around others by providing them a less obvious alternative for vision correction.

Additionally, contact lenses are a plus for teens who are involved in sports. For teens, contacts may be more safe than glasses in a number of situations. Unlike glasses, lenses are unlikely to get ruined during basketball, and other rough sports. Contacts are also more comfortable when playing activities that require safety masks. In providing a complete range of vision, they can also enhance teen's peripheral vision during sport games.

Generally before your child tries lenses you will want to speak to your eye doctor to find out about any potential problems your child might encounter. Our Cincinnati optometry practice will be glad to assist you in determining the right prescription for your teenager's contact lenses.

If your pre-teen or teenager needs vision correction, why not consider contact lenses? Through just a simple soft lens, you can boost your teen's self-esteem. With the wide variety of contact lenses available, you and your eye doctor can work with your child to decide what type of lens is most suitable for their character and style of life.
